TBI

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) occurs when a sudden trauma, such as a blow or jolt to the head, causes damage to the brain. The severity of a TBI can range widely. A "mild" TBI (e.g., concussion) is characterized by relatively brief changes in mental status or consciousness following the injury. A "severe" TBI is characterized by an extended period of unconsciousness or amnesia after the injury.

A neuropsychological evaluation can help determine the extent and severity of a TBI, confirm a diagnosis, and assist with treatment planning and support rehabilitation strategies for return to work, school and sports. A neuropsychological evaluation may provide a comprehensive characterization of one’s cognitive and functional profile, including impairments and areas of relative strength and preservation.
